Lyon look to move on from Claudio Beauvue controversy as Angers await in Ligue 1

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has drawn a line under his criticism of striker Claudio Beauvue ahead of Angers' Ligue 1 visit.

Aulas was unhappy that summer signing Beauvue failed to shake coach Hubert Fournier's hand after being substituted in the goalless draw at Nantes on Tuesday.

Commenting on the incident, Aulas said he saw "attitudes which don't sit right with me", but the following day he adopted a more conciliatory line on Beauvue. The striker, Guingamp's top scorer last season with 17, has so far scored four league goals for Lyon.

"I said what I felt in front of the images and I won't be saying anything else on the matter," Aulas was quoted as saying on Ligue1.com.

"Claudio is under contract and I don't imagine for an instant that he won't find his touch in front of goal again."

The Nantes draw ended a run of three straight defeats in all competitions for Lyon ahead of Saturday's meeting between fourth and third in Ligue 1.

Newly-promoted Angers have only won one of their last six but they stopped Paris St Germain's nine-game winning streak in a goalless draw on Tuesday.

And Angers remain third on the back of an excellent defensive record, which has seen them keep 10 clean sheets in 16 matches.

New Lille coach Frederic Antonetti has called for more of the same against second-placed Caen after claiming his first win in midweek.

Antonetti's side head to Caen with renewed optimism after beating St Etienne 1-0 to claim a first win in five games.

Lille remain in the relegation zone and Antonetti, who succeeded Herve Renard in the hot-seat last month, admits there is still a long way to go in the battle for survival.

"It does you good; every win is a welcome one, but above all it was the players' frame of mind that did us good," Antonetti was quoted as saying on Ligue1.com.

"We need to persevere and to be able to repeat this kind of performance, as of Saturday's clash with Caen.

"It's tough going through moments when you're in the drop zone and we know that it won't get better overnight. We'll need mental endurance."

Unfashionable Caen have been one of the success stories of the Ligue 1 season and so far the best of the rest with PSG striding well clear at the top.

Wednesday's 1-1 draw at Monaco produced another creditable point and defender Dennis Appiah felt the performance underlined Caen's credentials.

"This season we are confident we can cause danger to any opponent," Appiah told the official Caen website.

"Creating opportunities is one of our core strengths.

"Lille have gone through a difficult period but their success against St Etienne will give them confidence."

Other games on Saturday see Bastia host Monaco, Toulouse entertain Lorient, fast-improving Ajaccio welcome Nantes and bottom club Troyes head to Reims after parting company with coach Jean-Marc Furlan on Thursday.

There are three games on Sunday with Marseille at home to Montpellier and Bordeaux playing Guingamp before the late kick-off between St Etienne and Reims.

St Etienne's defeat to Lille dropped them to seventh and coach Christophe Galtier admitted later that it was his side's worst performance of the season.

"Too many players were blunted and we didn't have the energy to try things," Galtier said after a third defeat in four league games.

"It is difficult with the number of games we have, and we also have too many players missing to be able to rotate, so it is not a surprise to see players finishing on their knees."
