Lyon were held to a 0-0 draw in their first game of the Ligue 1 season after failing to beat Lorient goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte.
Nabil Fekir attempted to inspire last season's second-placed side in a lively first half but Lecomte made a string of fine saves.
The second period was a less inspiring affair as perennial strugglers Lorient claimed an impressive point.
They had started brightly, with Benjamin Jeannot's 25-yard shot saved and Didier Bouanga side-footing wide with Benjamin Moukandjo better-placed.
Fekir's drive was deflected wide with Lecomte stranded, before Steed Malbranque's deft back-header was saved.
Lorient's Raphael Guerreiro volleyed over on the stretch after Bouanga's effort was deflected to him six yards out.
Lyon hit the woodwork twice in one remarkable incident, Fekir inadvertently blocking a clearance onto one post and Lecomte parrying Lacazette's first follow-up effort before pushing his second against the other upright.
He also tipped over Henri Bedimo's piledriver but there was a glorious chance for Lorient as Milan Bisevac's error allowed Guerreiro to round keeper Anthony Lopes, only to see his goal-bound drive brilliantly nodded onto the crossbar by the back-tracking Samuel Umtiti.
Fekir fired high over from the edge of the box on his favoured left foot and curled another effort wide.
Lecomte made another good save, diving to repel substitute Arnold Mvuemba's fierce shot, and Lyon's attacking threat began to peter out.
They finished the game with 10 men after Lacazette went off holding his lower back, and Rachid Ghezzal's solo effort came to nothing as the game finished goalless.
