Luton Town manager Mike Newell has hit back at his Leeds United counterpart Dennis Wise as the furore regarding Kevin Nicholls' future continues.
The United captain has not played for the club since intimating his desire to return to Kenilworth Road, while Newell had claimed that Wise had offered the player to QPR.
Wise angrily denied that possibility after his side's 1-0 victory against the Hatters, but Newell stands by his comments.
"I wouldn't have made a call to Leeds about Kevin Nicholls if I hadn't thought there was a chance he might come back to us," he said.
"If he comes to Luton next week what Dennis has said about Kevin not leaving will be wrong.
"It's Dennis' decision if he wants to keep him, but are Leeds going to keep him, not play him and pay his wages?"
