Underwood opts to call it a day

Veteran Luton Town midfielder Paul Underwood has decided to retire from the game after failing to recover from a serious knee injury. The 35-year-old former Rushden & Diamonds stalwart has not featured in the Hatters first-team since a 1-1 draw with Brighton in a Championship encounter in March 2006. Town director Antony Brown told the club's official website: "It's horrible when a player suffers such a long-term injury. "It's hugely demoralising for the player concerned when they're trying to regain fitness but are separate from the rest of the squad and can't contribute on the pitch. "I know all the lads wish Paul the very best and hope that he makes a full recovery."
