Newell issues Beckwith warning

Luton Town manager Mike Newell has warned Arsenal that if they are serious about signing goalkeeper Robert Beckwith then they will have to come up with a big-money offer.

The 19-year-old has made just ten league appearances but has already attracted the attention of Premiership scouts, however Newell is determined that he won't let any club use the Hatters' financial plight to steal Beckwith away on the cheap.

He said: "It is nice to have young players linked with big clubs. We have had no contact but there is no smoke without fire.

"I wouldn't stand in the way of a young lad trying to better himself and it's a fact of life if a club come in with a good offer you listen.

"But it would be expensive. Nobody is getting players out of Luton on the cheap."

Meanwhile, the Hatters have been linked with striker Dean Morgan who was released by Colchester United on Thursday.
