Luton Town boss Mike Newell has moved to strengthen his strikeforce with the signing of Sam Parkin from Ipswich Town for an initial fee of £340,000.
The fee for the 25-year-old, who has put pen to paper on a three-year contract at Kenilworth Road, could eventually rise to £500,000.
Newell set his sights on Parkin after allowing Steve Howard to join Derby County in a £1million deal earlier in the summer, but had to beat off strong competition from Preston to secure his signature.
Parkin started his career as a trainee at Chelsea and made his name during loan spells at Millwall, Wycombe, Oldham and Northampton.
He joined Swindon in 2002 and went on to score 67 times in 124 Football League games, before moving to Ipswich in a £450,000 transfer last summer.
However, Parkin struggled to make an impact at Portman Road and he scored only five times in 22 appearances.
