He told Luton's official website: "When I first came here it was more about getting games under my belt. I wanted to come here to play games, not just reserve football." However, the loan spell quickly turned into a love affair with the club, with Spillane adding: "I don't know what it is about the club: the fans, the players, the manager, I love it. I will keep an eye on their results next season." The Hatters were deducted 30 points at the start of last season and found it impossible to lift themselves from the foot of the table. However, the club did win the Johnstone's Paint Trophy at Wembley in a season Spillane claims will be hard to forget. "It was an unbelievable season with a lot of ups and a few downs which was hard to take - not a lot of players get to play at Wembley - but that's football."
