Hat-trick of wins for Hatters as they beat Morecambe

Luton made it three wins in a row as they edged to a 1-0 victory against Morecambe at Kenilworth Road.

Striker Jack Marriott scored the only goal of the game with 14 minutes to go, settling a contest that was low on quality throughout, as the Shrimps lost for the eighth time in their last nine matches.

The hosts came close early on when Marriott's header was easy for goalkeeper Barry Roche, while efforts from Paul Mullin and Kevin Ellison were straight at home stopper Mark Tyler.

Hatters defender Alan Sheehan fired wide from the edge of the area, with the visitors going close when Aaron Wildig's effort was deflected behind.

Ellison almost had the opener, with his close-range shot drawing a decent stop from Tyler and Shaun Beeley then fired wide from 20 yards.

Marriott was also inches away from a goal, dragging off-target on the angle from Cameron McGeehan's through ball.

In the second half, Craig Mackail-Smith could not quite lift his effort over the advancing Roche, while Jamie Devitt thundered a shot over the top.

Paddy McCourt flashed an effort wide, with Mullin's 65th-minute free-kick easy for Tyler.

However, Marriott broke the deadlock after 76 minutes, beating Roche with an angled effort for his 11th of the season.

Tyler then had to save low down from Chris Doyle's header and the Shrimps almost stole a point late on as an unmarked Ryan Edwards saw his header fly over the crossbar.
