Wycombe return to League Two play-off positions after win at Luton

Wycombe climbed back into the Sky Bet League Two play-off places after a comfortable 2-0 victory at managerless Luton.

Second-half goals from Garry Thompson and Paul Hayes proved enough for the Chairboys to inflict a third successive home defeat on Town.

Cameron McGeehan shot over from 20 yards for Luton early on, as did Michael Harriman and Sam Wood for Wanderers.

Luton's Paul Benson headed off target from Craig Mackail-Smith's cross on 25 minutes, while Harriman played in Hayes for the visitors who shot straight at goalkeeper Mark Tyler.

Wycombe went on to have the better of the half, Sean Long making a fine block to stop Hayes scoring, and Anthony Stewart volleyed wide from the resulting corner.

The Chairboys broke the deadlock in the 51st minute when Harriman's cross wasn't cleared by Scott Cuthbert, allowing Thompson to round Tyler and score.

Olly Lee tried to level instantly, over the top from 25 yards, but after a stoppage for an injured linesman, Wycombe made it 2-0 after 66 minutes as Thompson's cross from the right was headed in by the unmarked Hayes.

Luton tried to pull one back through Mackail-Smith's speculative volley and Josh McQuoid's late header, but they couldn't manage a consolation.
