Matt Harrold snatches Crawley victory at Luton

Crawley produced a smash-and-grab raid to dent Luton's play-off hopes with a 1-0 win at Kenilworth Road.

The visitors scored the only goal of the game after 12 minutes through Matt Harrold to settle a fixture that Luton completely dominated but, crucially, just could not score.

The hosts went close in the opening seven minutes, midfielder Jonathan Smith seeing his 20-yard effort hit the outside of the post, before Crawley were in front with their first effort on goal, Harrold finding the bottom corner with an instinctive strike.

Craig Mackail-Smith flicked Stephen O'Donnell's cross over the top before the visitors had their best moments, Gwion Edwards only inches away from the bottom corner and Lanre Oyebanjo shooting straight at Jonathan Mitchell.

The hosts kept pushing, though, with O'Donnell's cross-shot blocked by Paul Jones while Jack Marriott and Cameron McGeehan sent shots just wide of the target.

Olly Lee tried his luck from range, rifling over, while in the second half O'Donnell shot straight at Jones and McGeehan was desperately close from 25 yards.

Luton then had two shouts for a penalty waved away, while McGeehan's free-kick would not come down in time.

Somehow the Hatters were denied once again in the 70th minute as Dan Potts' shot drew a fine save from Jones, with O'Donnell's rebound cleared off the line by Oyebanjo.

When substitute Paul Benson hit the crossbar from Danny Green's cross, that was it for Town as they saw their four-game winning run ended.
