Palmer wins it for Burton

A late goal from Matty Palmer took Burton to the verge of promotion to League One as they triumphed 1-0 at Luton.

The Brewers midfielder was left unmarked in the area 11 minutes from time to shoot past Elliot Justham with the aid of a deflection.

Defeat was cruel on the Hatters who had the better of the first-half chances, with Paul Benson volleying over and Michael Harriman firing into the side-netting.

Alex Lawless' curling effort missed the target before Elliot Lee put a header wide on the stroke of half-time.

In the second period, Adam McGurk's header was straight at Justham but it was the hosts who continued to create the better chances.

Jake Howells' cross was toe-poked behind by Benson before Scott Griffiths missed a marvellous chance to score, blazing over the crossbar when one-on-one.

Substitute Abdenasser El Khayati fired an effort wide for Burton, before Palmer pounced with what proved to be the winner.

Town could still have rescued a point but substitutes Mark Cullen and Luke Guttridge were both wasteful, leaving the Hatters three points off a play-off place.
