English star midfielder David Beckham will be among the first players involved in Major League Soccer's solemn remembrance of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks at matches this week.

Beckham and the Los Angeles Galaxy will play host to Colorado on Friday in the first game of the week with eight others to follow on Saturday, all including a pre-game moment of silence before the American anthem is played.

All players and referees will wear black armbands this week with the logo of the official 9-11 Memorial in Manhattan, being built on the site where the Twin Towers fell after hijackers crashed airplanes into them 10 years ago.

Fans will see a video message from the league encouraging contributions to 9-11 memorials.

"The entire MLS family looks to honor those who lost their lives and those that so heroically worked as first responders on 9-11, MLS commissioner Don Garber said.

"It's important that we all take time to reflect on the devastating loss on that tragic day and recognize the enormous commitment and sacrifices made by so many brave Americans that work to protect our safety every day."
