Self-belief can fire up Lokomotiv: Guilherme

Brazilian goalkeeper Guilherme Marinato is hoping for success with Lokomotiv Moscow after signing a new contract that extend his stay in the two-time Russian champions for the next three years.

The 27-year-old, who joined the railway-backed side in 2007, said the players were eager to play competitive football again, as the country's top-flight footballers resumed training during the winter break.

Lokomotiv are currently eighth in the league with 31 points from 19 games, 12 points behind leaders CSKA Moscow. The Russian Premier League resumes on March 9.

Marinato said he was happy with the club's offer of a new deal, describing it as a vindication of his contribution to the side.

The giant keeper -- who stands at 1.97m (6ft 6in) -- joined Lokomotiv from Brazilian outfit Atletico Paranaense but spent nearly two years on the sidelines with injuries before making his debut in July 2009. Since then he has played 105 times.

"Now I feel really hungry for a serious success," he added. "I want to win some trophies with Lokomotiv before I leave the club or hang up my boots."

Marinato blamed a lack of self-belief for the absence of titles at the club, adding: "We are a much more classy team than we all think. But we desperately need to have more faith in ourselves."
