Belgian Pro League review - Lokeren vs Zulte-Waregem

07 August 2014 12:43

The home side grabbed the first chance with both hands, with Dutra scoring an amazing bicycle kick after a mere thirty seconds. Lokeren was in control, rushing at the confused opponents, but failed to convert the catalogue of chances they set up. De Pauw missed a cross from Dutra in front of an empty goal, and Remacle shot wide after a nice dribble.

Zulte-Waregem slowly found their stride, and showed up at Lokeren’s goal around the thirty-minute mark. Skulason made the wrong decision however, passing it to Conte instead of kicking at goal himself. Plet also had the chance for the equalizer, but found the keeper in his path. Zulte did find their opportunity well into extra-time. Verboom got the ball at left-field en shot it past Verhulst.

Lokeren brought out the sledgehammer in the second half, to beat Zulte into submission.

Dutra charged at Bossut, but lost the duel. De Pauw missed another open chance. The visitors weren’t about to give the game away, and nearly came into the lead when Trajkovski was blocked by Scholz.A bit past the hour, Dutra decided the match, heading in a cross from Vanaken. Trajkovski nearly scored the equalizer from a free kick.

With the last minutes ticking away, Lokeren remained in charge, but no more goals were scored. Lokeren won their second match, after their surprising loss against Westerlo, and have shown that they’re a force to be reckoned with, even with their main man Harbaoui out of the picture
