Yossi - We can still win title
Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun is adamant the Reds have the quality to turn their season around and win the title.
The Reds' 31-match unbeaten run at Anfield came to an end on Monday night as Aston Villa surged to a 3-1 win leaving Rafa Benitez's Premier League dreams in danger.
The defeat was their second in three games after losing at Tottenham on the opening day with a 4-0 win over Stoke sandwiched between the Villa upset.
And the latest setback has cast serious doubts over Liverpool's title credentials after many pundits had tipped them to end their 20-year title drought.
Despite the turbulent start, Israeli winger Benayoun is confident the Reds have a squad capable of getting back on track and launching a realistic challenge for their first Premier League title.
Benayoun said: "Of course we are disappointed. We did not expect to lose to Villa but it was just one of those nights when everything went against us.
"Now we know we have to improve on Saturday at Bolton. Against Villa we did not play like we can play, we didn't move the ball quickly enough as we did to beat Stoke last week.
"Last season we only lost two league games, so of course we are not pleased. But we have to show we are still a strong team with character to recover from this.
"It is all about hard work and effort, working from game to game and we know we can do better than this."
Liverpool only lost two games in the entire 2008/09 campaign as only a series of draws cost them a place at the top of the table.
Now, with the sale of Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid seemingly taking its toll immediately, critics are suggesting Benitez does not have the quality at his disposal to sustain a realistic
challenge.
"Normally a club like Liverpool will lose only two or three games (a season)," added Benayoun.
"Of course everyone will ask if we are strong enough to win the league, but there is still a long way to go and everything can change.
"Not only the senior players must do better, everybody needs to work harder. I am sure we have enough quality, enough good players to do it (win the title).
"We have a game now against Bolton and maybe then it is a good time to go on an international break and try to come back stronger."
