Xabi Alonso: Liverpool is a special club and fans are great

Xabi Alonso has paid a glowing tribute to Liverpool supporters and admits the time he spent at Anfield will always have a special place in his heart.[LNB]The Spain midfielder quit Merseyside for Real Madrid before the start of last season and has impressed as much in La Liga as he did in the Barclays Premier League.[LNB]But back in an environment where supporters are quick to wave white handkerchiefs of surrender in a show of dissent against the clubs they love, Alonso remembers a very different attitude from The Kop.[LNB] You'll never walk alone: Xabi Alonso has declared his love for Liverpool supporters[LNB]'To play for Liverpool is something very special,' he told the Spanish editition of Vogue magazine. [LNB]'There is a very intimate connection between the fans and players that doesn't exist at other clubs.[LNB]Good times: Alonso's wife, Nagore enjoyed her time in Liverpool[LNB]'Even in bad times, the stands do not whistle, instead they sing, 'You'll Never Walk Alone'.'[LNB]The 29-year-old's wife Nagore has equally fond memories of her former home after making the life-changing decision to move when Alonso moved from Real Sociedad to Liverpool in 2004.[LNB]Nagore, who had their first child Jontxu on Merseyside in 2008 and has since added daughter Ane to the family, said: 'It was the best move I made (coming to Liverpool).[LNB]'The relationship went a step further. I had been working on a film production team (at the time), but I packed my bags and went.'[LNB]Andwhile many WAGs worry that their partners will appear in lurid newspaper headlines, she has few fears about the man she married eight years ago.[LNB] 'I can't complain,' she said. 'I am lucky - Xabi doesn't go to parties. He spends all his free time with us.
