Wigan reject Sunderland's fresh offer for combative midfielder Cattermole

Wigan have rejected an improved £6million offer from Sunderland for midfielder Lee Cattermole. Former Wigan boss Steve Bruce is determined to sign the 21-year-old and initially offered £5m on Friday but Wigan are standing firm. They want to give manager Roberto Martinez every chance of making a success of his Barclays Premier League debut and see Cattermole as pivotal to their plans. Lee Cattermole Lee Cattermole is a target for Sunderland and Liverpool But Tottenham and Liverpool maintain an interest that could tempt the player. Bruce is also keen on Tottenham’s Michael Dawson and Arsenal’s Philippe Senderos.
