Match Preview

Liverpool travel to the DW Stadium on Monday hoping to continue their fantastic record against Wigan Athletic.

The Reds have won nine of their previous 11 meetings with the Latics in all competitions, drawing the other two.

Earlier this season, goals from David N'Gog and Fernando Torres were enough for Liverpool to seal a 2-1 win against the Latics at Anfield, despite a late consolation from Charles N'Zogbia.

Two players who have shown particularly good form against Wigan recently are Yossi Benayoun and Dirk Kuyt.

The Dutchman has scored five goals in his last five Premier League starts against Wigan, while the Israeli midfielder has scored both of Liverpool's goals in their last two trips to the DW Stadium.

The Reds will have to improve their recent away form if they are to defeat Roberto Martinez's team though, as they have failed to score in five of their last seven Premier League away games, including the last three in a row.

They come up against a side in poor form themselves however, as the Latics have not scored in any of their last three league games.

Wigan defender Titus Bramble is convinced that, following their recent poor form, a win in this match could push his struggling side on to confirming their top-flight survival for another season.

"The lack of consistency is still there and it's so frustrating," said Bramble.

"It's a real dogfight at the bottom of the league and we need to compete for 90 minutes and not 45. If we can do that, there won't be a problem.

"The Liverpool game is a massive game for us, and we have to pick ourselves up and make sure we're ready for it."

Liverpool have suffered with injuries to both Martin Skrtel and Fabio Aurelio recently, but Glen Johnson is nearing a return.
