Villa would let Benteke go if that's what he wanted admits Sherwood

The admission from Tim Sherwood that he would rather let a player go that wanted to leave if the price was right is hardly a case of Aston Villa giving a ‘come get him’ statement but more a statement confirming how the transfer system works.

Whilst the rumour columns will be busy doing the maths of who could afford which player if each deal goes through its worth noting that Tim Sherwood states that he wants to keep hold of his best players:

“If a player doesn’t want to play for the club any more and the club he wants to go to meets the valuation, it’s best to let them go.

“It will be just a market value - what’s out there.” Said Sherwood

"I don’t want to talk about selling Christian when I’ve got no intention of doing that. So it would have to be a lot of money for someone to get him off us.

“We are looking for players ourselves, so we know how much other clubs are looking at [as fees] for their players. He’ll be too expensive for a great deal of people in the Premier League. We want to keep our best players - and he’s certainly one of those.”

That seems like a fair enough thing to say but reporters have been feverishly looking for links with clubs and what could happen in the summer should he want to move on. The suggestion is a move to Liverpool for £30million if a certain Raheem Sterling moves on himself for the reported £50million being suggested to Man City among others.

Brendan Rodgers is expected to be busy in the transfer window but has a limited budget that would need to be supplemented by sales suggests a report in the Mirror.
