United linked with Adler move after German keeper is spotted at Anfield

Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Rene Adler has been linked with a move to Manchester United after it emerged he was in the crowd at Anfield on Sunday.
The 24-year-old Germany international is said to be on a short list drawn up by Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson as current No 1 Edwin van der Sar approaches retirement.

Leverkusen general manager Rudi Voller confirmed that Adler was a spectator for Liverpool's 2-0 victory over United last week, but the Germany legend tried to play down talk that a deal was in the offing.
'I am delighted to see players being so much involved with their job they travel long distances to witness other matches,' Voller told the Rheinische Post.

'I am happy to see Rene being linked to big clubs right now, this is the best signal we have that we have a very good player on our hands and not so much wrong when setting up our squad.'
CSKA Moscow's Russia No 1 Igor Akinfeev is also a strong contender to replace 39-year-old Van der Sar while Villarreal's Diego Lopez, Inter Milan's Julio Cesar and Schalke's Manuel Neuer are among others who have been linked with United.
