Transfer news: Liverpool's Pepe Reina welcomes prospect of Simon Mignolet arrival

Pepe Reina insists that he would welcome the competition from the likely arrival of Simon Mignolet at Liverpool. The Anfield club are thought to have agreed a fee in excess of £11million with Sunderland for the Belgian goalkeeper, a move that would throw Reina's future into question. The Spanish goalkeeper has been linked with a return to Barcelona, who he left to join Villarreal in 2002. However, Reina has previously signalled his intention to see out his current Liverpool contract, which has three years to run, and even extend it. Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to increase competition on his squad, something Reina is happy to accept if the Mignolet deal goes through. "It has not changed a bit. I have said it many times, I'm very comfortable and very happy at Liverpool," Reina declared at a press conference during the Confederations Cup. "Every team needs competitors, and when it's positive it is more than welcome. If it is finally done I'll welcome him a lot, and anything he needs, I'm here."
