Transfer Gossip - January 18th

Today's main transfer rumours have centred around Liverpool winger Ryan Babel, who is allegedly deemed surplus to requirements at Anfield following a bust-up with Rafa Benitez and a series of inept performances.

The Dutchman is believed to be in high demand, supposedly interesting both Birmingham and Sunderland, as well as a number of foreign clubs.

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has however rebuffed any suggestions that striker Kenwyne Jones may be involved in a swap deal with Babel.

After Saturday's woeful performance against Chelsea and without a Premier League win in eight games reinforcement at the other end of the pitch certainly appears of more immediate importance to Sunderland.

Whether or not Jones is in fact a targetfor Liverpool they certainly seem intent on adding to their depleted strike force and have also been linked with Standard Liege forward Milan Jovanovic, whose contract expires in the summer.

Elsewhere, Crystal Palace wonderkid Victor Moses has put himself in the shop window by admitting he would relish the chance to join a Premier League club in January. The news is likely to spark interest from a number of top-flight clubs including Tottenham, Fulham and Wigan.

Reports in today's papers also suggest Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is set to make a final attempt to prize England goalkeeper David James from Portsmouth. Whether the relegation threatened outfit will be willing to sell remains to be seen, though Asmir Begovic has done an admirable job at Fratton Park while James has been out injured.

Meanwhile, Roberto Mancini's decision to replace Robinho just 51 minutes after he came on as a substitute has led to intense speculation that the Brazilian striker may be sold. Robinho has failed to make any sort of impression this season and given his poor work ethic may be offloaded to Spain or Italy.
