Torres shares Reds success
15 Apr 2008 - 11:30:25
Liverpool striker Fernando Torres believes the speed at which he has been able to settle on Merseyside is the reason for his record-breaking first season in the Premier League.
The prolific Spaniard took his season's tally to 30 goals in all competitions with the second in Sunday's 3-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers.
Torres has found the net 22 times in the league and is only one behind the record for a debut season in the Premier League set by former Manchester United hot-shot Ruud van Nistelrooy.
It is also the first time the former Atletico Madrid marksman has netted 30 times in one campaign.
"It is what I was dreaming for. I expected it to take more time. Achieving all that in the first season is amazing," he told the club's official website.
"The team have been working very well and helped me a lot.
"Settling has been very easy and you can see it on the pitch. I have been helped with everything.
"Every player feels important thanks to the fans, from (goalkeeper) Pepe (Reina) to the strikers because they sing their names and support them.
"I am proud and want to beat every record I can. I feel important in the team. The game against Chelsea gave me confidence to carry on.
"I have never scored 30 goals in a season in my career and I have made it here. It has been helped by the team's style of football."
