Torres on verge of comeback
03 Dec 2009 - 11:13:10
Liverpool's star striker Fernando Torres is close to a return to action, as he makes good progress in his recovery from a nagging groin problem.
The 25-year-old Spain international has not featured since the 1-1 Champions League draw in Lyon in early November, but could yet return against Blackburn Rovers this weekend.
Manager Rafa Benitez said: "The feedback we had about Torres yesterday was very positive and he was feeling good.
"We will see how he is in the next training sessions, but it seems as though things are going well.
"He has to keep training with the fitness coach, but if he is feeling better maybe he can be involved in normal training sessions and afterwards we can decide."
Meanwhile, Reds skipper Steven Gerrard is excited about making his 500th appearance for the club against Rovers this weekend.
He told the Daily Post: "It means everything to me personally to get to 500 games because I'm a local boy.
"My dream when I was young was always just to play one game for Liverpool, so to reach this milestone is a really proud moment for myself and my family.
"I've had an amazing career so far and hopefully it will continue to go the same way. I'm living the dream."
