Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres has cut short his summer holiday in order to finalise his £24million switch to Liverpool.
The 23-year-old Spain international is expected to have his medical on Tuesday before penning a six-year deal with the Reds.
Atletico have already signed Villarreal striker Diego Forlan while Luis Garcia is expected to move from Anfield to Madrid as part of the Torres deal.
However, Atletico president Enrique Cerezo is keeping his cards close to his chest, telling Onda Cero: "We are in conversations, but nothing has been signed yet.
"The deal has not yet been finalised and Fernando Torres remains an Atletico Madrid player but that might change on Tuesday.
"All I can say is that Fernando Torres is a great player who is valued highly by many clubs and he has to think about his future. Whatever happens our fans will have to understand that it is for the good of the club."
Torres, who joined Atletico as an 11-year-old, has been the club's top scorer for the last five seasons.
