Striker Fernando Torres believes Liverpool's season can still be their best in four years should they finish in the Premier League's top four and win the FA Cup.

The Reds are widely accepted to be out of the title race after losing seven league games already this season.

They also made an early exit from the Champions League after failing to qualify for the last 16 from the group stages.

But despite a turbulent season at Anfield, Torres does not subscribe to the theory that this season will peter out into a disappointment.

Referring to the FA Cup, he told the club's official website: "In this country it is the most important trophy after the title. If we won it then we would play in the Community Shield.

"Winning gives you the chance to get more honours and that should always be our aim.

"Of course we want to finish in the top four too. If we could do that and win the Cup it would be the best season we've had for the last three or four years.

"I know we finished second last year, but to win something and finish in the top four would be better than that."
