Torres: Prem still the best

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres claims the Premier League remains the best in the world despite Barcelona striking a blow with their Champions League victory over Manchester United.

The ex-Atletico Madrid striker has played in both England and Spain and despite Barcelona sweeping United aside in the European showpiece in Rome on Wednesday, Torres still believes the Premier League is more competitive than La Liga.

To illustrate his point, Torres claims he is a much better player than the one which left Madrid in the summer of 2007.

Torres has scored 50 goals in 84 appearances for the Anfield club.

"It is difficult to say which league is better, but the Premier League is more competitive because the British are becoming stronger and players are coming to England," the Spain striker told the club's official website.

"I have improved a lot. I managed to score more goals than any other foreigner in his first year in the Premier League and was third in the Golden Ball."
