Torres out for Liverpool trip to Hungary

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has decided not to include Fernando Torres in his squad for Tuesday's Champions League clash with Debrecen.

The Spain international will not be risked in Hungary as the Reds attempt to keep their wafer-thin hopes of reaching the last 16 of the competition intact.

However, Benitez hopes Torres will have recovered from his hamstring injury in time to feature against Everton on Sunday.

He said: "We thought he would be out for two or three weeks and he's only 12 or 13 days into that, so there's no point in him going to Hungary.

"The next few days will decide if he is fit for Everton, but at this moment there are no guarantees."

Liverpool need to beat Debrecen and hope that Fiorentina fail to secure victory against Lyon if their hopes of progress are to continue into the final group encounter.

Benitez added: "The message has to be to just concentrate on our game. We will know the score in Florence, maybe we'll have some information, but we have to focus on our job.

"A lot depends on Fiorentina and Lyon but the main thing for us is to concentrate on our game and see what happens.

"We have to prepare our game because we don't have any influence over the other one. If we can do our job and win, we'll see.

"I think we can do it. We have some players coming back from injury, so hopefully with a bit of luck we can progress.

"It's football, so you never know. We'll see if we can keep going in the Champions League."
