Torres aiming to eclipse Ron

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres is out to take Cristiano Ronaldo's mantle as the most feared man in the Premier League. Portuguese superstar Ronaldo is the current holder of the Ballon d'Or and Fifa World Player of the Year prize after a number of scintillating displays for Manchester United. He has, however, completed a record-breaking move to Real Madrid this summer, much to the relief of defenders across England. Torres, though, remains at Anfield and the Spanish hit-man has set his sights on terrorising the English top-flight this season. "It's my ambition to be seen as the most feared player in England now that Ronaldo has gone. But to do that we must win trophies," said Torres. "I know only then will people be able to speak the same way about Liverpool and me as they have done about Ronaldo and Manchester United. "To do that we need to have a fantastic season but we are confident we can carry on from last season and challenge again at the top." Open Liverpool were narrowly pipped by United to the Premier League crown last season, but Torres believes 2010 could be the year the Reds end their 20-year wait for a top-flight title. "They (United) are still a fantastic team with a lot of fantastic players but, of course, we have a big chance," he added. "Maybe with Ronaldo leaving United it's not so easy for people to see one big favourite this time. "Possibly the title race is more open then before and that's why the Premier League is so great. "We believe this can be the year for Liverpool but we know how difficult it's going to be. "Chelsea are there also because they have the same side as last season and Arsenal are a strong team. But we really feel we'll be stronger than last season. We have one of our best chances to win the trophy for a long time."
