Top 10 comebacks of all time: 1 - Liverpool 3-3 AC Milan
There is no greater stage in club football than the Champions League Final, which is why this match has to go down as the greatest comeback of all time.
The clubs involved already suggested that this match would be an epic, but just 1 minute after kick-off Liverpool got off to the worst possible start by conceding a goal, scored by AC Milan captain Paolo Maldini followed by a Hernan Crespo double.
Liverpool were 3-0 down by half-time and AC Milan looked as if they were lifting the trophy already.
Both teams emerged from the tunnel after the interval and ten minutes later who else but Steven Gerrard gave the Liverpool fans hope. The next seven minutes of that match will live in infamy, two more goals from Smicer and Alonso meant Liverpool had fought back from 3-0 down against a European giant to 3-3.
The whistle blew after 90 minutes and the teams found themselves in extra-time, AC Milan dominated but could not get past an inspired Jerzy Dudek. Penalties beckoned for both teams,
Serginho stepped up and missed his spot kick as did Pirlo, whilst Hamann and Djibril Cisse were on target for Liverpool. Kaka finally got AC going after the 3rd attempt, but with Smicer also putting his penalty firmly away it looked ominous for Milan, who's worst fears were confirmed as Dudek saved Shevchenko's penalty.
The Liverpool players and fans exploded into ecstasy with celebrations going on well into the night.
