Steven Gerrard vs Manchester United

In a game full of emotion due to the Hillsborough disaster – Englands two most successful clubs battled it out at Old Trafford in a high tempo game, of course as any game between these two great sides was full of controversy.

Liverpool – although down to 10 men dominated the game and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard made sure of it. The Liverpool skipper chested down a Glen Johnson cross, before volleying it in the back of the Manchester United net.

Pointing to the sky in honour of all those lost due to Hillsborough – Gerrard sprinted to the corner flag with his trademark knee slide as his life long club had taken a great 1-0 lead against bitter rivals Manchester United.

This was Gerrard's 90th league goal for his boy-hood club. An inspirational leader to say the least – at the age of 32 Liverpool will look to get as many more years as possible out of there skipper. Gerrard has scored goals like this his entire life – and still has the aiblity to do so at 32.
