Tommy Smith: Why Manchester City’s bid to buy title will end in tears

IT'S a massive game for Liverpool at Manchester City on Monday night and I really fancy Roy Hodgson's side to take the three points.[LNB]City have spent a fortune this summer and their rich owners are clearly trying to buy the title but it's not as easy as that. Money helps but it doesn't guarantee anything and I can see it ending in tears for City.[LNB]Roberto Mancini has bought so many players that I don't think he has any idea what his best side is.[LNB]He has a hell of a lot of players earning massive money with egos to match.[LNB] To get success you have to build team spirit and ensure you bring in the right kind of individuals. I don't think City have done that and they've created their own problems.[LNB]Having spent so much there is huge pressure on Mancini and I can see City failing to even finish in the top four.[LNB]I didn't agree with Hodgson resting so many key players against Trabzonspor on Thursday. I know he didn't want to risk injuries ahead of facing City but the team he put out wasn't strong enough to kill off the tie.
