FORMER Reds boss Roy Evans believes the time was right for Liverpool to make a change.[LNB]Evans, who managed the club from 1994 to 1998, saw another departure from the Anfield hot seat yesterday as Rafael Benitez's six-year reign came to an end.[LNB]'It's always sad when a manager leaves,' Evans said. 'Rafa was a good servant to the club over his six years and obviously successful. Unfortunately last season wasn't so good and there's been a lot of criticism.[LNB]'Sometimes as a football club you have to make a decision to take the club forward and that seems to be what has happened.[LNB] 'The fans will always be grateful to Rafa. If you win the Champions League, the fans will always endear to you, and there was the FA Cup, Super Cup and Community Shield too.[LNB]'Fans will look back on Rafa's reign and say it was a great period, but unfortunately one year you can do poorly and that's the way football is today.'[LNB]Ex-Reds defender Mark Lawrenson believes Kenny Dalglish could be drafted in to replace Benitez until the club's ownership situation is resolved.[LNB]'I would have thought Kenny would be heavily involved and quite rightly so - maybe not just in choosing the manager but holding the fort in the meantime,' Lawrenson said.[LNB]Former Reds striker David Fairclough fears the uncertainty at Anfield will put off some top class managers from coming to Anfield.
