The Saga of Luis Suarez

25 April 2013 12:54

Luis Suarez is back in the news again, this time for biting Branislav Ivanovic during this past Sunday’s Chelsea match at Anfield.

Over the last few days Liverpool has condemned his actions and fined him. Suarez has apologized and gave the FA advice on how long his suspension should be. Jamie Carragher prefers biting instead of broken legs and we have now heard from a Uruguayan FA Official, calling the English FA “hypocrites”.

There is no doubt that Suarez is a great player and there are not many teams out there that would not benefit from his skill and ability. His 23 goals have kept Liverpool in the top 10 of the Premier League this season and in the running for a Europa League spot. He has truly carried the team while it is in this transitional period under Brendan Rodgers which has allowed younger players to gain experience and grow. He should be given tremendous credit for his accomplishments but in one moment of madness, he will be remembered for biting an opponent….again.

What his future holds at Liverpool, only time will tell. Over the next few weeks, there will be plenty of speculation and debate on where he will be playing football next year. A much bigger concern is that Suarez gets the help that he needs. Maybe then he will be credited for his great skill on the pitch instead of for his antics. We can only hope.
