As the countdown to Steven Gerrard’s end-of-season Liverpool exit continues the fans are making sure their treasured captain knows just what they think of him.

The Liverpool faithful unfurled this giant banner ahead of kick-off for the first leg of their club’s Capital One Cup semi-final against Chelsea at Anfield.

Gerrard had recovered from a tight hamstring to came in for Fabio Borini in the only change from the team that beat Aston Villa at the weekend, giving him a great view point.

The banner reads: “The best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be.”

And to get an idea of just how big that banner is, here it is in the background.

WWE fans were quick to point out the quote was borrowed from wrestler Bret ‘Hit Man’ Hart.

But it’s not the only eye-catching message to the player from the stands.

The sentiment behind Get Gerrard To Wembley was so strong it emerged as a vibrant Twitter trend, but there are some fans just content to see him at Anfield.
