The Latest on Martin Montoya's potential Liverpool transfer

05 December 2013 12:48

As I wrote about last week Liverpool have been keeping tabs on Barcelona right back Martin Montoya's contact situation with an eye for a potential January for the Spanish international.

Yesterday it emerged that Montoya is considering leaving Barcelona in search of more first team football as the World Cup year fast approaches.

Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino told Mundo Deportivo:

"It's normal that everyone wants to play Doors are always open to anyone who is not happy"

Surely this raises the question as to whether Montoya is even in Martino's plans for the future at this point.

Montoya also spoke (translation required) about his career at Barcelona and with less than a month to go until the versatile defender is free to negotiate and sign a pre contract agreement with a foreign club he said Monday he would like to continue at the club but added:

"I'm young and I want to keep playing."

Mundo Deportivo mention that his agent, Josep Maria Orobitg, has been studying deals on offer from both Liverpool and Inter Milan.

With Brendan Rodgers obviously on the look for another January bargain after stating in the pre Norwich press conference "If the money is there and the right player is available, I have no doubts the owners would spend that money."

Surely Montoya should be chased and signed as direct cover/competition for Glen Johnson and Jose Enrique.
