The Jury: Liverpool FC fans reflect on the win over Man Utd

29 October 2009 00:00
ROBERT GILLIES, Aigburth[LNB]THE match against United encapsulated the best of being a Liverpool fan. [LNB]The volleys of beach balls raining down from the Kop showed our ability to laugh at ourselves, deal with adversity and completely steal the thunder of the visiting fans. The support and passion for the team was palpable and will be difficult if not impossible to replicate if we ever move to Stanley Park.[LNB]Players rose to something like last season's form and started at pace from the start. Without the distraction of Gerrard in midfield they had to take responsibility and rose to the challenge.[LNB]Torres is world class and the most graceful player ever to grace Anfield. Carragher showed what it means to be Scouse, Red and committed, his tackle on Nani in the last few minutes could be heard.[LNB]CHRIS LALLEY, Huyton[LNB]IT had become a rare sight but at last, following Sunday's euphoric victory over one the most over rated United sides in their history, a smile could be seen on the face of every Liverpool fan across Merseyside and beyond.[LNB]The national press had built this game up to be Rafa's final curtain and the showdown that would see United burst Liverpool's title hopes yet again, despite the fact we are still only in October. Instead, what was witnessed on Sunday was a Liverpool performance of character and desire that reflected what Rafa Benitez is all about.[LNB]Once again when it matters most, Rafa is able to defy the critics and outline that he is without question the man that will lead us back to the pinnacle of English football.[LNB]History will highlight that you write Liverpool off at your peril and this victory must act as the catalyst to reach our goals for this season. We have the quality, it now seems we have the mentality. Our season starts here.
