Surgery blow for Sissoko
09 Nov 2006 - 17:33:36
Liverpool have been dealt a massive blow with the news that midfielder Mohamed Sissoko faces three months out of action after dislocating his right shoulder in the Carling Cup win at Birmingham.
Sissoko was forced out of the 1-0 victory at St Andrew's after just 26 minutes, following an innocuous challenge involving Blues midfielder Mehdi Nafti.
And, after the Mali international had the injury checked out at the Reds' training ground at Melwood, it was decided that he requires surgery to fix the problem.
A club spokesman confirmed: "Unfortunately Momo will require surgery which is scheduled to take place next week.
"It is anticipated he will be out of action for three months."
Sissoko has become a key figure in the Liverpool midfield since his arrival from Valencia in the summer of 2005, although he suffered a nasty eye injury that ruled him out of action for a month last season.
