Sunderland stronger following Jordan Henderson's move to Liverpool says Steve Bruce

By Luke Edwards[LNB]11:12AM BST 12 Aug 2011[LNB]Comments[LNB] Bruce championed Henderson as one of the brightest prospects in English football shortly after becoming Sunderland manager two years ago, although he made no attempt to block his move to Liverpool when it became clear he wanted to go.[LNB]The £20m fee an initial £16m with the rest tied up in a series of performance related clauses has enabled Bruce to embark on an ambitious recruitment programme with ten new signings in place.[LNB]Sunderland, who will also sign a left-winger before the close of the window, will get an early opportunity to show Henderson the improvements his transfer paid for when the Black Cats travel to Anfield on Saturday.[LNB]'I'd have been a lot less active if we hadn't sold Jordan,' said Bruce, who believes his squad is now strong enough to compete for a top eight finish.
