Sturridge a doubt to face Villa

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge could miss Sunday's FA Cup semi-final against Aston Villa at Wembley through injury.

The England international pulled out of the Barclays Premier League clash against Newcastle on Monday after feeling the effects of a knock suffered against Blackburn last week.

Defender Mamadou Sakho was also injured in the FA Cup quarter-final replay win at Ewood Park and could be out for up to a month, Press Association Sport understands.

Sturridge's injury concern had not been made public but asked about the problem prior to the Newcastle game, manager Brendan Rodgers told Sky Sports: "He got injured at Blackburn and (is) unavailable fitness-wise for tonight. We will see how he goes the rest of the week for the semi-final at the weekend."

Sturridge has endured an injury-hit campaign and returned from a near five-month lay-off in January.

Liverpool have not commented on the extent of Sakho's hamstring injury but it is understood he could be out for around a month.

The 25-year-old Frenchman was forced off in the first half at Blackburn and had already been ruled out of the Newcastle game.

He could also now miss the Villa tie as well as Premier League encounters with West Brom, Hull and QPR.
