It’s a very sad day for football as fans digest the devastating news of Steven Gerrard’s departure from Liverpool.

Liverpool have revealed the club captain is set to wave goodbye to his boyhood team at the end of the season, after a lengthy 26 years with the club.

Gerrard’s current contract expires at the end of summer, but instead of taking up a new deal with Liverpool, the midfielder’s decided it’s the opportune time to leave the club he’s played with since he was 8-years-old and pursue a fresh challenge.

Despite being able to talk to foreign clubs since the transfer window opened yesterday, Gerrard is still undecided about his future destination – though rumours are swirling that his eye is on a Major League Soccer club and, apparently, Los Angeles Galaxy are keen to snap up the 34-year-old.

Understandably, Liverpool fans are devastated at the loss of their captain who has made 695 appearances, scored 180 goals and lifted 11 trophies with the club since joining the first team in 1998.
