Steven Gerrard backs Liverpool boxer Paul Smith for James de Gale British title defence

LIVERPOOL FC captain Steven Gerrard has thrown his weight behind Paul Smith's British title defence.[LNB] The Reds skipper is a close friend of the reigning super-middleweight champion and believes he has the tools to topple Olympic hero James DeGale.[LNB]With the Anfield side's Premier League fixture at Newcastle United having been moved to a late kick-off, Gerrard admits he faces a race against time to take his ringside seat at the ECHO Arena on December 11.[LNB] But the England international says 12st ruler Smith will have his full backing even if he can't the make the fight in person.[LNB]And asked by the ECHO if he had ever tried his hand at the sport, Gerrard said he lets his feet do the talking and is more than happy to sit back and watch 'The Real Gone Kid' in action.
