Steve Nicol (158)[LNB]STEVE NICOL is ideally placed to pass judgement on Liverpool's prospective new owners.[LNB]The Liverpool legend has spent the past decade in Massachusetts as the head coach of New England Revolution.[LNB]Nicol is the longest serving boss in Major League Soccer and has been an interested spectator as New England Sports Ventures (NESV) have breathed new life into their near neighbours, Boston Red Sox baseball team.[LNB]The consortium is principally owned by John W Henry, who has used the fortune he made in hedge funds to follow his sporting interests. Within two years of taking on the Red Sox in 2002 Henry had helped end their 86-year wait for the World Series.[LNB] Many Reds supporters are wary about having another American owner following the disastrous reign of Tom Hicks and George Gillett but Nicol believes NESV, who have agreed a £300million deal, are the ideal buyers to help transform Liverpool's fortunes.[LNB]The 48-year-old, who made 468 appearances for the Reds between 1982 and 1994, may have made the western suburbs of Boston his home but his heart remains at Anfield.[LNB]'As a member of the Liverpool family, I am excited to hear that new owners may be taking over at Liverpool,' said Nicol, who was part of the Reds' last title winning side in 1990.[LNB]'My understanding of this group is that they have protected and nurtured the history and tradition of one of America's beloved teams, while bringing championships to the franchise.
