Spurs manager Harry Redknapp shows how to beat Liverpool

Tottenham took nine games to get their first win last season but they started with an opening day victory for nine years, thanks to goals from Benoit Assou-Ekotto and newcomer Sebastien Bassong. "Last season we beat Liverpool 2-1 here but they absolutely destroyed us,' said Redknapp. "It was a totally different story this time around and we could easily have been two goals up by half time. "We have worked really hard in training at pressing teams because if you stand off teams like Liverpool they will pass it along the back, work it into the midfield through Javier Mascherano and then up to either Steven Gerrard or Fernando Torres. "I was worried about how Gerrard could hurt us but with a pressing game it restricted possession for Liverpool. "In the last 15 minutes of the game it became much harder for us because playing a pressing game takes so much out of players. "We frustrated Liverpool, forcing them to knock the ball long and are two centre halves could just head the ball away.' Redknapp knew he had signed a good player when he paid Newcastle £8 million for the French-born Cameroon international. Now he is predicting more from the defender. "I like Bassong, I think he can be an outstanding player, he's not even fit yet as he has missed most of the pre-season training with Newcastle. "When Newcastle were here last season I talked to Alan Shearer and Iain Dowie about him and they both said he would become an outstanding player. He is raw, young and lightening quick.' Now Redknapp takes Spurs to Hull, on Wednesday, knowing Spurs need to start winning away from home, having won only four on their travels all last season. "It was a good performance but now we need to go to Hull on Wednesday and do it all again,' added Redknapp. "We have to go there and show what we are made of.'
