Skrtel: Reds back next year
15 May 2009 - 08:46:59
Defender Martin Skrtel is confident that Liverpool have laid solid foundations on which to base a successful run at the Premier League title next season.
The Reds appear destined to miss out to Manchester United this term with the current league leaders requiring just one point from their two remaining games to secure a third successive league crown.
But Skrtel believes there is plenty of reason for optimism around Anfield as the Reds have pushed their rivals all the way.
"We will try to win every game next year and win the title," he promised the club's official website.
"I think we've made a big step forward. Last season we had some problems and finished fourth.
"We've beaten United and Chelsea twice and drawn twice against Arsenal. These are big things.
"We've played really well. The thing that has let us down is not-so-good results against lower teams.
"That is frustrating, yes. But this is football. We couldn't win against Stoke at home or away and other small teams.
"But we've done well against the big teams. We have to remember this and build on it for next season and fight for the title again.
"I think we've been the best side in the country for the last few months, definitely."
