Liverpool's Slovakian centre-back Martin Skrtel has reflected on the recent period at the club as 'one of the best weeks in my career'.[LNB] Last weekend saw The Reds overcome champions Manchester United 4-1 at Old Trafford - a victory that came hot on the heels of a 5-0 aggregate win over UEFA Champions League opponents Real Madrid.[LNB]Not surprisingly, spirits are exceptionally high at Anfield right now and Skrtel is loath to play down the achievements of the Liverpool squad during this period.[LNB]"It has been one of the best weeks in my career," Skrtel told The Telegraph.[LNB]"They were fantastic results for everyone. Before the game at Old Trafford the manager and all the players said this was our last chance to stay in the title race. [LNB]"We knew we had to win and I think we were better than them." [LNB]Rafa reliefNot only have results gone Liverpool's way in the past few weeks, but manager Rafa Benitez has also committed to a new deal with the club that ends months of speculation over the Spaniard's future.[LNB]As Benitez's record defensive signing, Skrtel owes a fair debt to his manager for bringing him to the club.[LNB]But despite a clear fondness for the man who showed such faith in him, the 24-year-old insists that it is about having the right manager to take Liverpool - and Skrtel himself - to the next level.[LNB]"Rafa signing is perfect for us, perfect for the club," the former Zenit St Petersburg man added. [LNB]"It's good for everyone that we know he's staying for a long time now. He brought me here and he has improved me as a player. [LNB]"When I arrived I hadn't been playing because it was the winter break in Russia, but Rafa gave me a chance straight away and since then he has brought my level up a lot." [LNB]
