Sissoko setback for Reds
23 Aug 2006 - 15:39:12
Liverpool midfielder Momo Sissoko faces two weeks on the sidelines after picking up a knee injury during Tuesday's Champions League qualifier against Maccabi Haifa in Kiev.
Sissoko was replaced by Steven Gerrard in the 67th minute of the second leg tie as the Reds secured a place in Thursday's draw for the group stages of the competition.
The 21-year-old was forced to leave the stadium on crutches and Wednesday's scan confirmed the extent of the problem.
"Momo had a scan which showed a tear of the medial ligament in his left knee," spokesman Ian Cotton told the club's official website.
"We do not expect him to be able to play or train for the next two weeks."
It is hoped that the player will be ready to return to action for the Premiership clash with local rivals Everton on September 9.
