Sissoko set for Reds stay
14 Jan 2008 - 07:34:26
Unsettled midfielder Mohamed Sissoko looks set to stay at Liverpool after Juventus revealed they are unlikely to make any January signings.
The 22-year-old Mali international claimed last week that he was close to joining the Italian side after losing his place in the first team at Anfield.
Reds boss Rafael Benitez also suggested he was willing to allow the former Valencia midfielder to leave the club in the transfer window.
However, Juve have played down reports that they are keen to sign Sissoko after claiming they will make no moves in the transfer market this month.
"Juventus will not make any acquisitions in the January transfer market," said president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli.
"It's normal to dream of big players, but in order for dreams to come true we need to wait for the right moment to come along."
Speaking last week, Benitez had said: "I was talking with Momo about leaving a few times.
"We know we have two or three clubs asking about him and we will try to find the best solution for him and for us."
