Sir Bobby Charlton: Time for Sir Alex Ferguson and Rafael Benitez to make up

Manchester United manager Ferguson and Liverpool counterpart Benitez have seemingly become embroiled in a personal feud with both clubs chasing the Premier League title. Ferguson has labelled Benitez "disturbed" and "arrogant," with the Spaniard hitting back with claims that the United manager is "scared" of his Liverpool team. But with the two men now apparently focusing their energies on point-scoring against each other, World Cup winner and United director Charlton has called for both managers to draw a line under their increasingly bitter rivalry. Charlton told Sky Sports, "It's maybe gone a little bit too far. I'd hate for someone to say something really outrageous. "I'm thinking it's gone a little bit too far with managers calling one another and everybody getting on television and trying to keep things newsworthy and on the front pages all the time. It's not fair." United face Portsmouth at Old Trafford on Wednesday in a game they must win to remain in pole position in the title race. And Charlton is hopeful that Ferguson's team can withstand Liverpool's late surge in order to claim a third successive Premier League title. He said: "We will concentrate now on what we're supposed to do and that's win football matches. "Hopefully we have a bit of luck, we don't have any suspensions, we don't have any injuries and we can actually have a really good go at winning the remainder of the matches we have."
