Silva service: United to approach Valencia for Spain midfielder

Manchester United are set to approach Valencia for Spain international David Villa. Despite Sir Alex Ferguson calling an end to transfer dealing after the arrival of Luis Antonio Valencia, the United hierarchy will pay up to £25million for the 23-year-old's signature. The deal for Villa could be tied up before the two teams meet at Old Trafford on Wednesday in a friendly, report the News of the World. Liverpool have also been linked with the midfielder, and Ferguson would enjoy a pre-season coup against United's great rivals. The versatile midfielder would add guile to a United side devoid of Cristiano Ronaldo, while rumours persist about the future of Silva's team-mate at the Mestalla, David Villa. It is unlikely that Ferguson will break the bank on the striker, however, with Villa unlikely to leave his native Spain.
